Glass and Glazing Options – Planitherm Glass
We’re proud to supply and install Planitherm glass. Planitherm is the UK’s leading energy efficient glass and glazing options, with special coatings that help stop heat escaping.
They offer three different glass and glazing options:
Energy Standard Glass for Improved Energy Efficiency
Designed to keep your home warm and comfortable, Energy Standard glass by Planitherm helps to keep your energy costs down by allowing more light and heat into the room. This is achieved through the clear microscopic coating on the inner pane of the glass, which also prevents internal heat from escaping by as much as 56% compared to older doubling glazing.
Comfort Glass for Energy Efficiency, Security and Noise Reduction
Planitherm’s Comfort glass offers the same features as the Energy Standard option, with a number of additional benefits. In addition to allowing light and heat into a room, and preventing the loss of internal heat, Comfort glass has an extra transparent layer that offers security and noise reduction benefits.
It’s the perfect choice for street-facing rooms or bedrooms as it provides a 20% reduction in noise compared to older glazing and is significantly more difficult to break. It also provides furniture fade protection by blocking 99% of damaging UV rays.
Comfort Plus Glass to Block External Heat and Keep in Internal Heat
The Comfort Plus glass by Planitherm works slightly differently, helping to limit and control the warmth from outside, making it the ideal choice for sunny rooms. It’s often used in south and west-facing rooms that get a lot of sun, as well as for bi-fold and patio doors that have large glazed areas.
It features the transparent layer for added security and noise reduction as well as furniture fade protection as it blocks 99% of damaging UV rays.
Solar Control Glass
The large glazed area of bifold doors can be a source of discomfort making solar control glass an ideal choice for sunny south-facing bifolding door installations. With advances in technology, the latest solar control glazing solutions both reflect and filter the sun’s rays. This allows natural daylight into the room while removing the glare. This prevents much of the heat from entering the room, keeping it cooler on sunny days.
Solar control is achieved by applying either a tint or a metallic coating to the glass (or both). The tint uses its darker colour to absorb heat, while the coating reflects the heat back to the outside. Using both in combination offers the highest levels of comfort as heat from the sun is absorbed and reflected back.
Solar control can be combined with other options including a soft coat Low E glass on the inside panel that comes standard with Bifolding Door Factory installations. Another preference is to combine solar control with easy clean tinted glass which keeps the glass looking great with minimal cleaning.
Pilkington Glass
Established nearly 200 years ago, Pilkington glass has been leading the way in glass and glazing innovation. Across the UK for the past 20 years, most properties have installed double glazing manufactured by Pilkington due to its superior energy efficiency.
Pilkington Activ Range
Pilkington Activ is the industry’s first dual-action self-cleaning glass and glazing option. The coating is applied to the external glass pane and has photo-catalytic and hydrophilic properties. It works in two stages, in the first it reacts with natural daylight to loosen and break down dirt and, in the second, when it rains the water spreads over the surface of the glass, washing away dirt and preventing streaks. During dry seasons the glass can simply be washed down with water.
Pilkington Energy Advantage
This glass offers improved energy efficiency as well as high solar heat gain, effectively harnessing the heat and light from the sun and decreasing the need for internal heating and lighting. The highly durable coated glass can be laminated and toughened. It is available ins a wide range of sizes and thicknesses.
Pilkington Texture Glass
This is a rolled patterned glass that transmits diffused while providing different degrees of obscuration for privacy. There is a wide range of designs and finishes and can be toughened and laminated for additional safety and security. This glass is ideal for a variety of commercial and residential applications.
